Portuguese Union organizes Carla Couto Cup

The Portuguese Football Players' Union (SJPF) and the Lisbon Football Association (AFL) organized on October 15th and 16th 2016 the second edition of the Carla Couto Cup, a competition that gathers the eight teams of women’s football affiliated in the AFL and that pays respect to the Portuguese Player of the Century.

Carla Couto carries out the Union’s delegated and ambassador’s tasks for women’s football, integrating the FIFPro Committee for the modality. She’s the most international player of all time for Portugal, having represented the National Team AA in 145 occasions.

Carla Couto

The “godmother” of the competition, Carla Couto, showed pride to see her name associated to this competition: “It’s a great honor to associate myself to this tournament and be able to name something that makes a difference in women’s football. The players deserve to be in a level with greater visibility and this cup is a plus.”

Futebol Benfica wins competition

Futebol Benfica wins competition

The national two-time champion Futebol Benfica was the big winner of the Carla Couto Cup II edition, defeating Estoril-Praia by 1-0 in the competition’s final.

The Union elected Catarina Bajanca (Estoril) as Best Goalkeeper of the competition and distinguished Mafalda Marujo (Futebol Benfica) as Best Marker of the competition, with seven pointed goals.
