Hope Solo visits Portuguese Union

Taking advantage of being in Portugal to attend the Web Summit, the northern-american goalkeeper Hope Solo visited the Portuguese Players’ Union (SJPF) headquarters in Lisbon, for the first time.

Hope Solo was welcomed by Carla Couto, ambassador and SJPF’s delegate for women’s football and member of the FIFPro committee (world players’ union) for the modality, and João Oliveira, responsible for SJPF’s legal office, as well as the rest of the Union team.

Joaquim Evangelista, president of the Portuguese Players’ Union (SJPF), was reelected as a referee for FIFA DRC (Dispute Resolution Chamber) for a new four-year term (2017/2021). The Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) is FIFA’s jurisdictional body responsible for arbitrating dispute resolutions.

FIFPro and FIFA sign landmark agreement
After a long negotiation, the representative organization of football players worldwide, FIFPro, of which the Portuguese Players’ Union is a member, celebrated a landmark agreement with FIFA, applicable for the next six years.

The new cooperation agreement with FIFA, since the first one in 2006, strengthens FIFPro role as a worldwide players’ representative in a near future. With the signing of this deal, issues like unpayment salaries and several abusive treatments to the players, such as placing football players to train in solitary from the rest of the team, will have more hard penalties.
