Portuguese Union present at the FIFPro General Assembly

Portuguese Players Union was represented at the main meeting by the President and Vice-President of the Board, Joaquim Evangelista and José Carlos, by the Chairman of the Board of the General Assembly, João Nogueira da Rocha, and João Oliveira, head of the legal office.

During the three-day meeting, the 66 unions discussed, inter alia, relations with FIFA and UEFA, the implementation of amendments to the FIFA Transfer Regulations, changes to the international competitive calendar, the challenges of women's football, mental health and doping in sport.

In a statement, FIFPro reported that it had called on sportive entities in Cyprus to open an investigation into practices developed by some clubs in Cyprus during the 2017/18 season.

In cause is the administration of substances (as yet unidentified) to players by their medical departments, with a view to accelerating their physical recovery. At least three footballers who were given these substances in the last season were, however, diagnosed with serious heart problems.
