The decision was announced at the inauguration of the program "Portimão European City of Sport 2019", by the president of ACES Europe, Gian Francesco Lupattelli. Odivelas was elected European City of Sport in 2020.

It is in the municipality of Odivelas that the future home of the Portuguese Players Union will be built, which will include the Players Academy, a multidisciplinary project where, through sport, the player is expected to assume a central role in the relationship with the community through development of countless actions.

The Moreirense midfielder, Chiquinho, won the Best Young Player award in December of the Portuguese First League, awarded by the Players Union.

In the Second League, forward Romário Baldé (Académica) was the most voted player.
