Solidarity of top players to defend the dignity of the football career

The year of 2019 ended with several teams of the 2th and 3th division asking for support because of unpaid salaries. This was the case of União de Leiria, Vilafranquense and Fátima, for example, requesting the intervention of Union and finantial support, through the salary guarantee fund. For this reason, the Union will reinforce the dialogue with the organizer of the competition (FPF), demanding the implementantion of regulatory mesures, such as:

- New licensing system, and finantial control during the season, for the 3th division;

- Financial guarantees by the investors, to assure the capacity to comply with labor obligations;

- Regulatory measures to fight against the false civil contracts, parallel labor contracts and false declarations in the players registration;

- Promote new channels to report non-compliance with salary payments;

- Ensure a proper execution of court decisions and new sportive sanctions.

Bruno Fernandes

It was, however, the intervention of Bruno Fernandes, portuguese international and Sporting CP captain, the best way to alert for the labor violations in portuguese clubs. The midfielder show his solidarity and remembered when himslef faced this kind of problems, after moved to Italy, at 18 years old. Bruno Fernandes asked more respect, for the players and their families.

Merit and excellence

Moving to another subject, the Portuguese Football Association (FPF) awarded the Union with the merit and excellence award in the category “Research and Universities”, with the project “Todos Contam. No futebol também”. In 2019, portuguese Union presented a pioneering study about the savings and investment habits of the male and female professional players.

Another aspect of recognition, but from the perspective of the international appreciation of the portuguese player: the confirmation of the signing, even on loan, of Gedson by Tottenham, and the imminent move of Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United. After so many others, such as João Félix, Bernardo Silva and, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, the portuguese player continues to rise in the top of international market.
