The football industry is living uncertain times, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, remembered that, in the next weeks, there are no conditions for football competitions to return.

In meantime, FIFPro is working with their 65 member unions to propose the best protocol to be implemented at national level, assuring the protection of players health and reducing risks of infection.

Solidarity

In a solidarity gesture, the players of the portuguese national team, led by the captain Cristiano Ronaldo, donated half of the qualification prize for the European Championship, to increase the amount available in the fund created by the Portuguese FA to support the clubs affected by the termination of non-professional competitions in 2019/2020, namely with the payment of salaries to the players.

Portuguese Union invited João Leal Amado, Professor at the Faculty of Law, in Coimbra University, one of the most respected specialists in sportive labor law, to analyze topics related with the impact of COVID-19 in the labor relations of football players. In three articles, Professor Leal Amado approached salary deductions caused by provisional suspension of contracts, agreements between clubs to avoid contract terminations with just cause and the impact of this crisis in the players vacations period.

Last few days, the Portuguese Union has continued to provide support to the players in finantial difficulties, namely in the third division. CD Fátima SAD team was supported with the Salary Guarantee Fund, joining to UD Leiria SAD, CF União da Madeira SAD, Olímpico do Montijo and the under-23 team of CD Aves SAD, this season.
