Restart the competitions? Yes, but safely

For the Players Union the return of football competitions in Portugal must be made with guarantees of security, following the international guidelines approved by FIFA, UEFA, FIFPro, European Leagues and ECA.

For this reason, the Union worked in a document presented to the Portuguese League and Government, where makes clear that any protocol for the restart of trainings, in the first phase, and the competition, in a second phase, must be approved by the national health authorities.

At international level, FIFPro has already warned, through its General Secretary, Jonas Baer-Hoffmann, for the importance of having security measures ensured in all countries: “If we pressure players to bring them back to an environment where they can feel that their safety is at risk, it will increase anxiety and worry.”

Solidarity

In times of pandemic, the solidarity gestures are being multiplied in portuguese football. The Union created a working group with team captains of the first, second and third Leagues, to identify the cases of social emergency, having provided already finantial support exceeding 60.000 euros.

Batis Candé

Batis Candé

In these difficult times, we should also not forget those who were already struggling before the pandemic, like the case of Batis Candé. In 2017, at the age of 22, he suffered a serious injury and has been unable to play since then.

Batis Candé story it´s an example of overcoming, resilience and perseverance. Despite the obstacles, he returned to study and now seeks to complete the high school studies, through the “Qualifica program”, with the support of the Union.
