For the president of the Portuguese Players Union, Joaquim Evangelista, this agreement it’s an example of the cooperation that should exist in portuguese football: “We are living a very difficult period, especially for the clubs and players of the competitions canceled. This is a time to promote balanced agreements, considering the individual and collective interests of players, in the relationship with clubs.”

The termination of the 2019/20 edition of the second league, decided by the portuguese government and health authorities, caused the disappointment and concern among the players, who felt discriminated compared to the colleagues of first league. The portuguese union share this feeling but reinforces that this decision was taken by the government and it is now up to football governing bodies (FA and League) to ensure the protection of the affected players contracts.
