EUSÉBIO (1942-2014)

Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, 71, considered by many the major portuguese football symbol, has passed away at 04.30am on the last sunday, 5, due to a cardiac failure. The portuguese government has declared a three-day mourning for this loss.

Branded as Black Panther, Eusébio will always be remembered as one of the greatest footballers of all and a Portugal icon. He was elected the World’s Best Player in 1965 and he has conquered two Golden Boot awards (1967/68 and 1972/73). At England’s World Cup, in 1966, he was chosen the best player of the competition, as well as the best scorer, with nine goals.

To all his friends and family, SJPF sends the most sincere condolences.

Eusébio was an example of tolerance and hs contributed to erase racism from football and unite footballers around what reall matters. He will never be forgotten.”
